Family friendly museum of the year 2008
|
Museums Sheffield has great pleasure in announcing that Weston Park has won the Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award 2008.
Museums Sheffield: Weston Park was one of five shortlisted museums in the final run-off, all of whom were there because they best demonstrated the remarkable and innovative work of Britains museums and galleries to ensure everyone, of every age, feels more welcome.
Nick Dodd, Museums Sheffields Chief Executive said:
"Museums Sheffield: Weston Park is a delight, it has a rare quality that turns a visit into an adventure and a visitor into a friend. Over 500,000 people have chosen to visit since it opened and thanks to our fabulous staff those visits are as special now as the day we opened the doors. We are absolutely delighted that Weston Park has won the Guardian Family Friendly Museum Award."
Run by the Guardian and Kids in Museums, the award is now in its fourth year. The entries were shortlisted by an expert panel consisting of Dame Liz Forgan, Chair of the Heritage Lottery Fund and the Scott Trust, Mark Taylor, Director of the Museums Association, Anra Kennedy, Head of Learning at Culture24, Melissa Denes, Arts Editor at the Guardian and Mark Brown, Arts Correspondent at the Guardian. The shortlisted museums were road-tested by families before the final winner was announced.
The other four museums on the short-list were; Dulwich Picture Gallery, Manchester Art Gallery, Shetland Museum and Wolverhampton Art Gallery.
