Risk assessment guidelines
The house is a sixteenth century timber farmhouse which has retained many of its original features.
These give the house its distinctive character and are an enjoyable and unique aspect of a visit.

These features include:
· uneven stone and wooden flooring
· a polished wooden staircase and steep back stairs
· narrow doorways with exposed latch fastenings
· heavy decorative items on window sills
· heavy old fashioned furniture
· low artificial lighting in the house
· non-edible and irritant plants in the herb garden

The house is situated in a park with gardens that are accessible to the general public at all times.

After assessment, we feel that these hazards present a low risk to individuals and groups who are aware of the hazards and adequately supervised. In order to make your visit as safe as possible, we advise group leaders to prepare pupils by instructing them to move carefully, and sensibly, around the house. Adult helpers should supervise pupils at all times, particularly on staircases and outside.
